“I wrote “SMOOTH” about getting a fresh cut to look good for someone you haven’t seen in a while, hopping in the car, and somehow every red light turns green on the way to them. It’s that moment where everything feels like it’s going your way. Sonically, I wanted to capture that same effortless energy, blending funk, soul, pop, and R&B with influences from artists like Prince and D’Angelo, alongside the rich jazz scene here in Chicago. The track features live bass, guitar, saxophone, and trumpet, bringing a warm, organic groove to a modern R&B sound. It’s a feel-good record made to get people moving.
Also, I’ll be playing my first headline show at Bookclub Chicago on November 10th! If anyone’s in the area and wants to catch the music live, I’d love to see you there!” - Nayu
