“This was a "secret" love affair in which "the one who got away" got away for decades. A former girlfriend who awakened my deepest emotions and passions for the first time in my life, surprised me so much that I was lost with my future life staring me in the face. I loved this woman the most of anyone in my life yet I couldn't understand how to introduce her to my family and friends. So, no one knew her but a few of her teammates and a couple of college friends of mine.

The song was inspired by the reawakening of her memory after decades of her in my subconscious all of a sudden being shocked by driving by her home she grew up in, for the first time in over 40 years. The song feels lonely because I felt lonely in my remembrance of the way things went in the mid 70s.”
